Nursury School
Minimize

Without basic education, the majority of children in Uganda will grow up to face unemployment and struggle to earn enough to meet their basic needs. ISAA’s education initiative supports local schools and is establishing an early childhood education facility.

Your giving to this project will completely transform the lives of many disadvantaged children and their families, helping to eradicate illiteracy and reduce unemployment.

Be a part of Transforming Education in Africa!

Many schools in Uganda are over crowded and offer very basic facilities. Students often share books and stationary and desks. In many schools there is no access to technology and as a result students fall behind the rest of the world in their understanding of computers and the Internet as tools for education and connection to others. ISAA with your help is seeking to change this!

ISAA has chosen a number of schools seeking to transform this problem and partner with them in bringing transformation to these schools. ISAA chooses schools based on a schools commitment to accountability, transparency, good governance, and a commitment to bring IT education and vocational skills for the future.

It is our hope that every student not only graduates but also learns skills needed to give rise ti greater opportunity. Connecting kids Globally! If you would like more information on how you can get involved or financially contribute towards making a difference, please contact us.

Poverty & Education
Minimize

Poverty in Uganda remains high, with 38% of the people living in absolute poverty (i.e. on less than one dollar a day). Children constitute 62% of the people who live in absolute poverty.

Poverty prevents the fulfillment of basic human rights to survival, security and well-being. Education is one of the top priorities for children as a means of fighting poverty and reducing vulnerability.

The main barriers to access and full participation of children in education include: costs of scholastic and basic requirements, cost of post primary schooling, poor quality of education, disability, gender issues (such as early marriages, teenage pregnancy, sexual harassment, heavy burden of household chores on girls), distance to school, insecurity, and poor nutrition or no meals both in schools and at home.

Water & Sanitation

Livingstone Primary School in November 2008 raised an amazing $760 as part of the S.E.E.D. Project, which they generously donated to CARE4Kids (ISA) in Uganda. A team of students participated in a pilot project that was facilitated by Whitehorse School, focused Youth Service and the City of Whitehorse.

The topic was “Sanitation”. S.E.E.D. stands for Students, Engaging, Exploring and Doing.
1. The students started planning events to raise awareness.
2.  The “doing stage” where plans were actioned. This involved teamwork and collaboration with lots of hard work throughout the whole project.

HOW CAN WE HELP? WE CAN EDUCATE, WE CAN CONTRBUTE!

Good Sanitation involves: Having effective toilet facilities, Access to clean water, Sound hygiene practices.

Good sanitation minimises the risk of spreading germs. Clean water and good sanitation is foundational to increase life expectancy for children and maternal health. ISAA are working closely with national and international partners, international organisations, national leadership and NGO’s to deliver safe and effective sanitation to the Jinja district, Uganda, East Africa.

Awareness of good sanitation is important! Millions of people are dying each year due to poor sanitation. Many people do not have access to toilets, clean water and appropriate education/training. In developing countries poor sanitation can lead to Diarrhoea, severe dehydration and death.

Of the Global population: Over 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, Over 2.6 billion lack access to basic sanitation, 5000 children under 5 die every day from Diarrhoea (lack of sanitation and hygiene), Women and girls risk indignity and sexual harassment because of lack of latrines and attempting to access clean water, Streams, rivers and lakes are polluted as sewerage flows directly into them, exposing billions of people to sickness and disease, a root cause of unsafe water.
