The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that in 2007 there will be between 300 – 500 million episodes of Malaria in the world resulting in up to 2 million deaths in Sub Saharan Africa alone. Malaria is especially devastating in sub Saharan Africa where a child dies every 30 seconds from the disease. The WHO says that 40% of the world's population, mostly those living in the world's poorest countries are at risk from Malaria, and that many children who survive an episode of severe Malaria may suffer from learning impairments or brain damage.
